IPPNY Statement on Champlain Hudson Power Express Proposal

IPPNY President and CEO Gavin Donohue made the following statement in response to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's announcement that the City is pursuing access to large-scale Canadian hydropower:

“Nobody is going to dispute the importance of renewable generation, but there are certainly options that make more sense than the Champlain Hudson Power Express. If New York City wants to spend more than $2 billion on energy infrastructure, that money would be better spent investing in New York State by building renewable resources that would provide jobs and tax revenues to benefit communities. Selling out our renewable future to another country is not going to help New York remain a leader on environmental issues.”
