IPPNY Statement on Indian Point Closure

Independent Power Producers of New York President & CEO Gavin Donohue today made the following statement regarding the announcement of the closure of the Indian Point Energy Center:

"Indian Point's closure will heighten the need for investment in generation and transmission, particularly along the upstate-downstate corridor, and especially if the State intends to meet Governor Cuomo's energy and environmental goals by 2030. IPPNY has supported the Governor's Clean Energy Standard from the beginning because our members understand that the Governor wants investment in New York in a manner that is consistent with competitive wholesale markets - which have time and again proven to be the most efficient means of accomplishing the State's objectives.

"With Indian Point's closure, it is now more critical than ever for the State to manage a competitive and transparent implementation process so that New York consumers may benefit from the development of projects that are both timely and cost-effective."
