IPPNY Statement on the Senate Roundtable CLCPA Discussion
Today, IPPNY participated in a roundtable, led by the New York State Senate, to focus on the actions needed to forward the State’s clean energy future. IPPNY contributed on crucial aspects, such as addressing affordability and electric reliability, and submitted written testimony that offered a more detailed analysis on the recommendations discussed throughout the roundtable.
IPPNY President and CEO Gavin J. Donohue said: “IPPNY continues to support a cleaner energy future in New York, but it must be achieved in a responsible and affordable manner. The growing recognition to address the affordability of reaching the CLCPA’s targets reflects the real concerns of ratepayers about their electricity bills. New York must continue to maintain electric reliability through the efficient operation of its existing energy resources and determine a timetable for qualifying zero-emitting technology. Identifying the necessary future resources must be in lockstep with the growth of renewables and energy storage, and, until then, the State must continue to issue permits for both existing and new facilities to operate as energy demand continues to rapidly rise.”
